Though this was a fun experience it was our least favorite of the 3 different dog sled locations we visited while touring Alaska. None of the Seavey's made any appearance - college kids ran the show. Dog area was very smelly (the other 2 dog sled tours we did were NOT smelly at all) and it seemed that Seavey's dogs were not as well loved - more of a money making outfit here. Granted we did enjoy that the kids got to help outfit the dog and themselves in the demonstration of the gear the dogs and mushers wear during races in -50 degree weather. Would just say it was OK. Honestly felt a bit sad for these dogs after seeing how good the other sled dogs had it at the other places. If you're into dog sledding or have watched it like we have then this is a must stop and visit destination. Very informative behind the scenes of what a musher and his crew must do to win. Our guide Elyssa was great, very knowledgeable and informative and funny. The food was good and the trip to the glacier was worth the hike. This was without a doubt the best money I spent during my week long trip to Alaska. The Seavey's were incredibly humble despite the fact that they are world record holders in the Iditarod Race. The tour was extremely educational and we were also given baby huskies to hold. Oh and did I mention the ride itself was freaking awesome?! This was experience that will stay with me a lifetime. Highly recommend. This was part of our tour package on the Alaska Railroad in Seward and I was surprised at how interesting it was. We got to do the sled ride and I was impressed with how eager the dogs were to get harnessed up and run! The care that is taken to give the dogs the best of all the things they need is amazing. The Seaveys have a long history of being Iditarod champions and they have quite an operation. We had the chance to hold weeks old puppies at the end of the tour. Wonderful experience! Incredible experience! The dogs were just wonderful and obviously well loved and taken care of. The guides were a host of knowledge about everything Iditarod, and provided a great experience. Would definitely do it again.
