Warm, friendly staff greeted us when we arrived. The room was clean and cozy with a comfortable bed and plenty of room and accomodations for our luggage. Convenient downtown location meant we walked everywhere! Between that and the price, we're definitely staying here again next time we're in Seward. Quaint older hotel with tons of history. Clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Friendly service. Sound carries a bit in the historical wing. Great place to get a feel for Seward history. Overall very positive experience. We had a nice stay; however, we did not get the room that we had reserved. We had reserved a room with a king bed and due to a " computer glitch" ended up with a room that has a queen bed. There were no blackout curtains which is tough for July in Alaska. The room was clean and overall quiet. It was very tastefully decorated. The dining establishment had an amazing crab omlet!! The waitress that was supposed to work didn't show so we had subs. They were very entertaining and did a good job of taking care of us, even though it wasn't their day job. Good historical hotel at a good value. If you value history more than luxury this is an excellent place. Rooms are very comfortable. First off, there is no pool. Especially an outdoor pool. It's July and about 50 degrees at night. Second, you share bathrooms in some rooms. If you do share a bathroom then you have to listen to the people next to you use their bathroom because only a very thin door separates your room from the bathroom meant to be shared by two rooms. Instead they gave the adjoining bathroom to one room and the cheap room has to walk down to the end of the hall and use the floor restroom with a shower. I never had to wait to use the bathroom or shower so it's likely only shared by like four rooms. Third: no elevator to your room if you're in the historic wing. Fourth: the TVs well and truly stink. They are at least twenty years old and the cable goes in and out. Thankfully, we didn't go to Alaska to watch TV. So why 4 stars? Well, the staff are really nice and attentive. The rooms are clean. The rates are cheap compared to other hotels in town. The shared bathrooms are very clean. The water is hot. The rooms have a sink to wash hands and face or get water for brushing teeth. Water is potable but not as good as Anchorages tap water. I also like the cram everything in decor. It is a bit busy but it goes together and presents a memorable atmosphere.
