If you like hiking this is a must-do in Seward. Get a taste for the famous race on July 4th, when hundreds of runners go up and down this mountain at break neck speed. The best race times are about 45 minutes, but that's crazy. Most recreational hikers take about 3-4 hours to do this, so budget your time and know that it's not easy. Hiking with someone who has done it before is recommended, especially if it's cloudy/foggy. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and maybe a couple layers. Wear shoes/boots with good tread. The views from the top are amazing, but this mountain also has excellent views from halfway if you don't have the time for the whole trip. Enjoy! Beautiful views, Jeep trail isn't too difficult. Trail does get muddy in areas. Runner's trail up and is very difficult and goes right through a creek for a hundred yards or so. Pretty epic views all around... Mountain goats too if you're lucky... This is the most sustained "urban" hike / climb I've ever done. Following the race track, the dangerous part is at the bottom. There is an easy way around but longer (Jeep trail then bench trail) Got here after 10 days of foul weather and it was sunny. Had no choice but to go up ;-) Wow. This hike is no joke. Legitimately difficult and dangerous.
