We hiked up Exit Glacicer. I believe it was about 7 miles round trip and 3300 feet in elevation change. It is not for the beginner but not super difficult either. They have shorter trials to hike as well. Check out the visitor center. There is an emergency shelter near the top. It is just a wooden building about eight foot square. A good place to get out of the wind chill if it was really cold. Went kayak-camping throughout the fjords for three days and it was fantastic. The wildlife in the remote parts of the park is amazing; whales, otters, eagles, seals, porpoises, and if you're lucky, a bear. The view of the landscape from a kayak is amazing, even in dense fog. Be aware that the weather here, even in summer, can be chilly. 50 degrees with wind and rain is not warm. Be prepared to get wet and bring an extra change of clothes. The Rangers here were excellent and they sent the kids on a scavenger hunt. The Black Bear Campground near Portage was the perfect place to spend the evening in our RV. We parked in campsite 12 right next to the trailhead and enjoyed the beautiful scenery along that well maintained trail. A must see in Anchorage! Glen alps (aka "flat top") easily has the best view in the area! Walk up the western path for easy/okay, go up the eastern trail for harder walking/amazing views. We visited this park on September 8th, 2017 and it's a beautiful state park. We walked the Turnagain Arm Trail and it was short enough for people who aren't very good hikers but you will still get to some great views of rivers and mountains. If you stay on the highway next to the park going east for an hour you'll reach the Byron Glacier as well!
